Finca Sagrada (Sacred Land Farm) is a biodynamic farm community nestled in an isolated sacred valley in the mountains of Southern Ecuador. The property is diversified with approximately twenty acres of irrigated pastures, food forest and gardens, plus an additional eight hundred acres of mountain land, bounded by a river and stream. Walter and Susan Davis Moora moved from the States to Ecuador in 2007 and shortly after bought Finca Sagrada. Walter has been a Biodynamic farmer for fifty two years and Susan has been a leader in the social investment industry, often called the godmother of social investing.
READ MOREAt Finca Sagrada, we grow our fruits and vegetables following the principles of biodynamic agriculture, as well as the methods coming from the indigenous traditions.
Apart from food items like rice and wheat, which we can't grow, much of the time we are self-sufficient and can feed ten or twelve people daily. We keep our own seeds to keep on sewing and growing more of our biodynamic products.
We grow native foods such as yucca, zanahoria blanca and camote and a wide range of temperate vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, beets, carrots and cabbage. Chia seeds, flax seeds and peanuts also grow very well at the finca.
We also have a flourishing “food forest“ that feeds us all year long, where we grow avocados, papayas, bananas, passion fruits, mandarinas, oranges, lemons and coffee.
We bake sourdough bread and granola in our fire oven, and also milk cows, have chickens for eggs, and eight beehives, which provide us with the most delicious honey ever.
Discover why our farm is such a unique and incredible place!
The farm is nested in a sunny valley, surrounded by two rivers and high mountains.
We respect the plants and animals and follow the moon calendar to plant and work on the land.
We share our daily life with our local partners and volunteers coming from all over the world.
We organise ceremonies every Equinoxe and Solstice to honour Mother Earth.

Read More"Our three weeks here showed us the magic of living in a community on a biodynamic farm and we appreciate every part of it. It was always a joy to work with Cristian in the Inca Garden or with José building the new guinea pig house. There was some digging, weeding, fixing the the water system, taking care of the animals, watering the plants... Furthermore, we were so pleased to enjoy meals and sing all together around the table. Everybody contribues during their stay and make it an ideal home to affirm ourselves. Thank you for this time! All the best."
"Jorge and I must extend our deepest gratitude to Susan and Walter for giving us the opportunity to come to Finca Sagrada. In our 3 weeks there e learnt, discovered, shared, and now have valuable friendships, memories, and experiences for the rest of our lives. I find this to be a model for us when we start our own farm. This was a beautiful cultural exchange in a beautiful place with even more beautiful people. Thank you once again, a warm embrace to the coolest and kindest couple, guardians, and rare humans whom we care deeply for."
"Walter and Susan, "thank you to be who you are"! I deeply appreciate the existence of this place in the world of ever growing wisdom, faith, love and food. All the knowledge about biodynamic farming mixed with local tribal ancient Ecuadorian methods is priceless. Thanks to José, Carmita, Cristian and all the volunteers for such a beautiful experience. Thanks Goldie, the cows, the donkeys, the trees, the mountains, the river, the fire, the sun, the moon, the stars, the fireflies, the birds... Thanks again to Walter and Susan for seeding into the next generation big Hopes and beautiful Values. Blessings."
"This Finca is a very unique place in the middle of a peaceful valley. Thank you Susan and Walter for this opportunity , I felt really good and safe and I still miss the whole community. There is something very magical in this Finca. If you like remote places, spirituality, nature, animals and good-pure-organic food, this is definitely your place. You can work with really nice Ecuadorians José, Carmen and Cristian and practice your Spanish with them. And again, the food is fantastic. Prepare yourself because you want to stay longer than you planned. Take at least 4 weeks here or more."
